With everything going on right now with the Coronavirus, you may be rethinking your overall health. Here are some additional tips to help keep you healthy and boost your immune system!
If you know me, you know I’m a lifelong germaphobe and self-proclaimed “health researcher”. I thought it would be helpful to share some of the things I’ve found to maintain a healthier lifestyle and keep sicknesses at bay.
Also, really hoping I don’t jinx myself by sharing this!
*Please do your own research and check with your doctor before trying anything I recommend!!
This one goes without saying, but please make sure you are washing your hands and cleaning all surfaces including your phone, they are filthy!!
Don’t underestimate the power of fruits and vegetables! They offer lots of vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy and fight off sicknesses. You could also try adding green juices into your diet (just make sure they don’t have any added sugars or gums)!
I know not everyone can handle the taste of green tea but I encourage you to try to incorporate it into your diet. It truly has so many amazing benefits!! It is high in antioxidants, vitamin c, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium. Not to mention it is believed to have anti-cancer properties!
You might think probiotics are just for gut health but they can also help boost your immune system by inhibiting the growth of harmful gut bacteria! I also read that taking Lactobacillus GG may reduce the frequency and severity of respiratory infections by 17%! How amazing is that!
This is one I would check with your doctor with but oregano oil is a powerful herb! I use it whenever I’ve been around sick people or if I think I’m about to be sick. It actually saved me from getting the flu from a friend that I shared a drink with!! It is also antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic and antimicrobial. Deff use this one sparingly!
Another amazing herb! Elderberry has excellent nutrients as well as antiviral and anti-inflammatory, Similar to oregano oil, elderberry is excellent for preventing colds can also relieve nasal congestion! You can find elderberry as a tea, tincture, cough drops and cough syrup. I’d recommend finding the best quality of this you can find because a lot can be loaded with sugar.
I’m sure you guys already know this but moving your body is so important. Some of my favorite forms of exercise are going for walks and yoga! Yoga has done amazing things for my body and mind.
My acupuncturist always recommends that people say away from cold foods and liquids. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is believed to help with circulation, protect internal organs, keeps organs hydrated and a ton of other things.
Dry brushes are so amazing because they help stimulate the lymphatic system and help with overall circulation. It also may help with digestion and exfoliation! Such a simple yet powerful tool. I try to dry brush a couple of times a week to make sure everything is flowing properly in my body! Gua sha is similar in that it helps with lymphatic drainage, circulation and stagnation. It also helps tone the muscles in your face and can help diminish the look of wrinkles after you use it. I’ve also noticed it helps with the redness in my face!
I’m not just talking about supplements but try to get as much of your vitamins and minerals naturally through food! Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Magnesium and zinc are some amazing ones to add into your diet. Vitamins are essential to make sure your body is functioning properly and keep you healthy.
I know you already know how important sleep is but it really is important! It helps your body repair, more mental clarity, help reduce stress and soooo much more! If you have a hard time falling asleep try getting into a really good sleep routine/ritual. Start by winding down at the same every night, brush your teeth and put your phone away from your bed. Once you start doing this every day your body will start to learn that once you start winding down, you are preparing for sleep. If you are still having trouble sleeping, try doing a sleep meditation, drinking some calming tea, consider getting some blackout curtains and most importantly NO TV IN BED! Another thing I like to do is put my phone on “Do Not Disturb” mode and put my phone across the room and wake up at the 1st alarm! Read the book “The 5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins, she explains more in detail about putting your phone across the room!
I know might not everyone will agree with this and that’s ok! I just wanted to share what has personally worked for me and people close to me.
